Below is a press release from the Series Editors of the Melland Schill series.
--------
Since its foundation, Melland Schill Studies in International Law has striven to become a home for exceptional academic work from around the world. Volumes published in the Series have tackled major issues and current developments in the field, carefully curated by leading experts and practitioners. Under the stewardship of new editors, this venerable series has been given renewed vigour.
Founded as a memorial to Edward Melland Schill, a promising scholar killed during the First World War, the Melland Schill Lectures (1961-74) were established by the University of Manchester following a bequest by Edward’s sister, Olive B. Schill, to promote the understanding of international law and implicitly lessen the possibilities for future conflict. The resulting Melland Schill monograph series has produced some of the leading reference texts in the field and Manchester University Press continue to foster a close relationship with the Melland Schill Lectures. The series includes The boundaries of International Law, The Decay of International Law, and Self-defence in International Law amongst others which continue to be integral reading for leading experts in internal law.
New monographs on innovative and cutting-edge topics are currently in the pipeline and will soon be added to the series. At this stage, we want to reflect on how best we can sustain innovative and inclusive thinking at a time when so many political, economic and social constraints come to interfere with academic works.
In the next phase of the Series’ prestigious history, Manchester University Press is proud to announce the digitisation of part of the series via our Manchester Hive platform. Eight historic volumes from the series have been digitised for e-reading on the Manchester Hive:
• Child soldiers in international law
• The changing rules on the use of force in international law
• The World Trade Organization
• Jurisprudence of international law
• Principles of direct and superior responsibility in international humanitarian law
• The rights and duties of neutrals
• The treatment and taxation of foreign investment under international law
• Human rights in Europe
We continue to grow the established series and are excited for the future of the Melland Schill Studies collection. Stay tuned for what is coming next and any future digitisation of titles.
Yours Faithfully,
The Editors of Melland Schill Studies in International Law
