ILA-Irish branch lecture in honour of colleague and former Chair James Kingston
24 April 2023 - 6pm - Royal Irish Academy
'The UN Security Council's Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security' with guest speaker Professor Christine Chinkin
Professor Christine Chinkin will discuss the UN Security Council's resolutions on Women, Peace and Security, creating an agenda that Ireland has strongly engaged with. It will outline the components of the agenda and its grounding in existing regimes of international law. It will also consider the tensions that are created by an agenda that is seen as progressive by its civil society proponents but that does not fit easily within the UN institutional space and its role from the perspective of advancement of women’s human rights and as a peace agenda.
Christine Chinkin, FBA is Emerita Professor of International Law, Professorial Research Fellow and Founding Director of the Centre of Women Peace and Security at LSE. She is a barrister, a member of Matrix Chambers, and the first woman to hold the role of Chair of the Executive Committee in the 150 years of the existence of the ILA.
